What's Inside My Makeup Bag | Bridesmaid Edition

April 18, 2019

ICYMI, I just stood up in a friend's wedding in Arizona last weekend! It was such a beautiful day; full of love and magic and I was honored to be a part of it.

As a bridesmaid, you can typically plan on having a stylist do your hair and makeup for the big day. Although I am all for someone making my hair look pretty, I am hesitant when it comes to makeup because A. my skin is incredibly sensitive and B. I don't wear a lot of makeup, so I'm afraid I won't look like ME. Because of these fears, I opted to do my makeup myself.

I'll say it again- I do NOT wear a lot of makeup. But I knew I needed to up my game to look nice enough for the wedding. It required a lot of practice and experimenting with new products I'm not used to using, but I was able to lock down a look that was equal parts natural and glam.

I achieved the look by adding some new products to my makeup bag and I'm sharing them on the blog today! Here's what's inside my bag for my bridesmaid makeup look:

After moisturizing, I prepped my skin with Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Primer. It's a lightweight cream that blends with the color of your skin tone and serves as a base for makeup. The formula also includes sunscreen.

I picked up this concealer pen out of fear that I would get a breakout from traveling. Luckily my face stayed clear and I didn't end up using it! I tested it prior to the trip and it worked really well, and I can use it next time my skin is giving me trouble.

For foundation, I wanted to use a liquid formula instead of my usual powder formula to get more coverage and a smoother look. I tested this Hydrating Tint from Neutrogena and loved it because it's not as heavy as a liquid makeup, but still gave my skin a flawless finish.

This is my everyday powder foundation that I swear by and have written about many times before, and I used it on top of the hydrating tint for an overall matte appearance.

To finish prepping my skin, I added on this Wet N Wild Eyeshadow Primer to my lids. It's super inexpensive, effective and I've been using it for a long time. It keeps eyeshadow in place and blocks any creasing or smudges from mascara.

My current must-have brow product. The Maybelline Brow Pencil makes it easy to shape, fill and brush out brows. The crayon glides on smooth and makes my brows look natural. And I LOVE that it has a brush.

I am not a designer makeup person, but I've used trial products from Tarte before, so when I decided to get a good quality eyeshadow palette for the wedding, it was no contest. The amazonian clay formula in the In Bloom palette makes the colors rich. The shades are the perfect selection of nudes that really took my bridesmaid look to the next level.

Another beauty product I do not use often is eyeliner, but sometimes your eyes just need that extra pop for special occasions. The Curvitude eyeliner is a curved pen with a very thin point that makes light application so easy for people like me.

I bought a trial of this mascara at Ulta just to see what all the hype was about and HOLY. MOLY. It is GOOD. My lashes look so long and full after applying that they literally look fake. This mascara is worth every penny.

TARTE AMAZONIAN CLAY BLUSH
The Amazonian Clay Blush is the first Tarte product I've tried and I use it almost everyday. Much like the eyeshadow, the color is rich and pigmented. The shade "feisty" gave my face the overall natural pop of color it needed.

LOREAL TRUE MATCH LUMI POWDER GLOW ILLUMINATOR
I didn't want to go crazy, but I DID want a little faux glow on my face. I applied this LOreal Illuminator to my upper cheekbones and my nose to give it a slight shimmer. This product acts as both a blush and a highlighter to brighten targeted areas on your face.

To pull it all together, I lastly added my lip color. Neutrogena's color sticks are smooth to apply and give lips great color. I used the shade "pink nude" to give my lips a simple pop that was pink and natural looking. The best part about this lipstick is it hydrates your lips instead of making them look dry and flaky after a long day, which was exactly what I needed.

Here was the finished look:
