The first gift guide I put together this year is a fun one that I have personally created once before for my sister-in-law and it was A. HIT. This guide is all about building a spa basket! The phrase "treat yo self" is more important than ever, so why not treat someone on your list to the gift of an at-home spa day?
This gift is perfect for anyone in your girl gang. At the time when I put this together for my sis, she recently had a baby and was still settling in to being a new mom. It was the perfect way for her to find little ways to relax while still at home with my niece. This gift would also be perfect for your friends who work long hours, your mom who deserves a day off, or your beauty squad who LOVES to try new products!
To put together this gift, stores like Marshalls and T.J. Maxx are your best friend. You can always count on finding name brand products for super cheap in their beauty aisles. It's also a great place to pick up a canvas tote or bucket to put all the items in! You can also never go wrong with Target this time of year; they have a variety of holiday beauty gift sets amongst the rest of their affordable drugstore products.
Here's a guide to some ideas of what to include in your spa basket:
You can never have too many lotions! A fun Christmas scent or something relaxing would be perfect for this basket. Bath & Body Works has a great selection of holiday lotions, or for something calming, my current favorite is Aveeno's Positively Nourishing Lavender and Chamomile lotion. It smells AH-mazing and puts me in a calm state of mind.
There are so many face masks on the shelves these days and it's hard to pick one! You can mix it up with one sheet mask and one clay mask. Or if you know the preference of the person you are gifting to, go with that! A fun one to include would be the Bliss Mighty Marshmallow Whipped Mask that you can find at Target. Marshmallow = Hot Chocolate = Happiness.
A body wash that doubles as a bubble bath is the perfect 2-in-1 product to add to this gift. You can use it for a quick shower OR if you feel like taking a relaxing bath. Shea Moisture's Peace Rose Body Wash acts as both to soften and calm skin.
Just like a mask is a treat for your face, you can treat your hair to a mask as well. My personal, and affordable, favorite hair mask is the Garnier 1-Minute Hair Mask. These are under $5 at Target and come in different formulas depending on the hair type. The Avocado Smoothing Treat is a great option for anyone because it is meant to nourish hair.
I love to pick out nail polishes for gifts. If you know the favorite color of the person you're gifting to, it would be fun to get two different variations of that color polish. Or you could pick out festive colors like a deep berry red or gold glitter. There's always a good selection of OPI or Essie at T.J. Maxx.
To go along with the nail polish, throw in some holiday-themed nail files. These can also be found at T.J. Maxx or Marshalls and make a colorful addition to the basket.
Everybody loves bath bombs! Target has some really fun holiday-themed bath bombs, like Santa Blast and Jingle Bomb. It doesn't get anymore relaxing than a bath bomb night in the tub! Time to get fizzy.
These terry cloth hair turbans have been a lifesaver, especially if you air dry your hair like I do. Instead of wrapping up a huge towel on your head, this turban is the perfect size and stays together with an elastic band. It makes a perfect gift, seriously. Add it to the basket. Like, now.
I have yet to try a jade roller, but I've heard great things about them. They're supposed to reduce puffiness and calm skin. I think this would make a great addition to the basket. It's something fun that your friend/family member can try out and report back with the results!
Whether it be a facial scrub or skin scrub, you'll want to throw a little exfoliation in that basket. My favorite skin scrub is the Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub. For my face, I love St. Ives Energizing Coconut and Coffee Scrub. Both products leave my skin softer than ever.
I don't always recommend buying shampoo and conditioner for the spa basket because those products are pretty personal and people can be very specific about their hair products. But if you'd like to throw some in, I recommend small sample sizes, like the Kristin Ess travel sizes available at Target. Something luxurious, but small.
Um, DUH you need to add a loofa in the spa basket! An absolute necessity!
GIFT CARD
A good idea for a final addition to the spa basket would be a gift card. For example, I got my sister-in-law a gift card to her nail salon. You could also get a gift card to Ulta or Sephora. Any type of gift card that leads to more pampering would work perfect.
Finally, you need a basket to actually build the basket! I love to find canvas or fabric bins at Marshalls; they're super affordable and hold all the items really well. Plus, you can use these bins for storage when it's empty. Find a pretty colored or patterned one and start adding in all the products you picked out!
*****
Now, don't think you have to add ALL of the items I listed in; these are simply suggestions that I've found to be most successful for creating this gift. You can pick and choose and tailor it toward the person you are gifting it to.
Tie a cute Christmas gift tag around the basket and voila! You have the perfect gift for a beauty lover; or for someone who needs a little pampering and a LOT of relaxing!
