The Monday Motivator is a series meant to motivate, encourage, inspire and provide advice on real life stuff.*

Happy Monday! Today's cup of coffee needs to be STRONG.

I had another topic in the works for this week's Monday Motivator, but after a very busy weekend, I decided to write about something different that I was feeling more inspired by. Today's topic: Recharging.

No, I'm not talking about recharging your phone, although that's a good way to look at it. We plug in our phones to recharge them at least once a day, if not more, because we're looking at those little percentage numbers and answering the needs of our technology. But just like we are answering the needs for these inanimate objects, we need to answer the needs of our bodies, too.

This past week/weekend was the busiest I've had in a while. I always joke with people that my weekends are cursed- I either have nothing going on, or everything going on in the same weekend. This particular weekend was the later; I celebrated a friend's bachelorette party and helped out at another friend's fundraiser.

My busy weekend kicked off on Thursday when I headed to Chicago to help decorate for the party. Friday's schedule included bridesmaid dress shopping and dinner with our bride tribe, followed by Saturday's festivities which included a Cubs game, plenty of junk food, bar hopping and spending time with some of my favorite girls. I woke up Sunday for brunch and afterwards, headed back to the suburbs to the fundraiser. I finally made it back home around 9 P.M. I was crabby and ready for bed because my body was mad at me.

Was this weekend awesome? HECK YEAH. Everything was so much fun and I wouldn't change a thing! But today, the start of a new week, I am taking a minute to listen to my body. It's tired. And it needs a recharge.

Sometimes we need a long recharge; like a vacation or a spa day. But just because we can't squeeze something like that in doesn't mean we can't give ourselves what we need. Today I will recharge from the weekend by taking it easy and doing some things I know will help my body. Then I can set myself up to have a great rest of the week! Here's how I will recharge today:

  • I will not forget to take my vitamins.
  • I will not overdo it at work. There is still a whole week left to get things done.
  • I will drink LOTS of water. All damn day.
  • I will get a veggie wrap for lunch because I know when my body needs its greens.
  • I will spend my break at work reading and taking a nap.
  • I will go for a walk when I get home tonight to clear my head and get some fresh air.
  • I will spend time on the couch, in comfy pajamas, watching the Emmys and catching up with my family.
  • I will go to bed at a reasonable time.
  • I will start Tuesday out on the right foot, recharged and ready to take on the rest of the week.

We tend to underestimate how important it is to let our bodies recharge. It's easy to think, "I'll be fine" or "I'll get over it." But if we ignore our needs, we are more likely to burnout.

Listen to your body today. Give it what it needs. Set yourself up to have a great week.

Rest up,
