Ah, adventure.

Most of us love a little adventure all year long, but summer always feels like the PERFECT time to get out there, explore and try new things.

The truth is, it's impossible to find your favorite places, the "hidden gems," without first doing a little exploring. Everyone's new to a place once, right?

I would never say I am an overly adventurous individual. Certain things you'll never catch me doing, such as skydiving, camping or riding any form of roller coaster.

But I would say I am adventurous with the little things. I love trying new foods, traveling to new places and once in a while, I'll do something randomly daring. (I just went up in a propeller plane with my best friends a few weeks ago!)

I think it's completely acceptable to classify yourself as slightly adventurous if you love trying new things. It's simply part of the discovery process. I love discovering new stores and restaurants that not a lot of people have heard of. It makes my adventures feel more fun and exclusive.

The best part is there are places everywhere just waiting for your own discovery, so why not make checking these places out part of your adventure this summer!

I've partnered with my adventure focused car rental friends at Turo for today's blog post to share two of my favorite hidden gems in downtown Morris, Illinois. Keep on reading to add these two awesome places to your adventure bucket list.

Downtown Morris, Ill.

1 | OUR HOME TO YOURS CONSIGNMENT SHOP

Downtown Morris has an abundance of little shops, boutiques and antique stores. On a beautiful day, there's nothing better than strolling the streets and checking out the offerings of each store front. Home decor, vintage furniture, paper goods and clothing are just a few of the many unique items you will come across.

My favorite store that I always check out, and just so happens to always be my first stop, is the Our Home to Yours consignment shop. Not only is this store budget-friendly, but it also has a lot to offer.

From furniture, home decor and antiques to, of course, lots of clothing and accessories, you never know what you'll come across in this shop. My mom loves to look at home decor and I love to look at clothes, so we get the best of both worlds when we stop in together.

As far as fashion goes, the racks are full of seasonal blouses, jackets, dresses, skirts and pants. There is a good selection of handbags, including designer ones. You will also come across other great accessories, such as scarfs and jewelry.

Oh, and my personal favorite, their wall of shoes!

I love that this store always stays true to the season. When I popped in last week, they were gearing up for summer with plenty of adorable sundresses, beach totes and floppy hats.

The prices on the items at this store are also really great! Depending on the brand and style of the item, the prices vary, but are all still very affordable. I snagged a new pair of Nike running shoes for only $16 in March. Here's what I picked up during my most recent visit:

White Mountain beaded wedge sandals | $14

*So comfy and cute for a sunshine-y day!

Liz Claiborne white beach pants | $8

*I've been searching for a pair of these! (HINT: Beach pants are a HOT summer trend!)

NEW Apt. 9 Aloha pineapple tassel scarf | $7

*Is this not the cutest scarf that ever existed?!

You seriously can't beat a pair of shoes, pants and a scarf for under $30. Plus, these pieces can be worn all summer long.

Checking Our Home to Yours out is a must if you are from the area, or perhaps just traveling nearby. You will find incredible deals on the season's trending fashions and have a blast while hunting for them!

2 | LETTY MAE'S TEA ROOM

Let's talk about my very favorite place to eat! (and sip tea!) Letty Mae's is a tea room and bakery in downtown Morris with a shabby vintage flair like you've never seen. If the mismatched antique tables and chairs with vintage tablecloths aren't a dead giveaway that this is the cutest restaurant ever, just wait until your lemonade is delivered in a mason jar with fresh lemons, strawberries and a patterned paper straw. (ADORABLE!)

The menu is perfect for a light brunch or lunch. There are also different specials every day, including a variety of soups, sandwiches and quiche. My personal favorite, the Newt's Cobb Salad sandwich, is off of the regular menu. An egg salad made with bleu cheese dressing and bacon on rye bread... YUM! I also always try the soup of the day, or go with their classic cold strawberry soup, which is basically a creamy and refreshing strawberry smoothie in a bowl. All meals are served with tasty potato chips and fresh fruit.

Don't forget! Letty Mae's is a tea room and bakery, so there is just no escaping without a pot of tea and dessert. Save room for your choice of sweet specials, including cupcakes, brownies, cookies, scones, whoopie pies.... the list really goes on! Depending on the day, the choices will be different.

During my most recent trip, I tried a chocolate coconut whoopie pie. It was delicious- the cake was a spongy, light chocolate and the frosting tasted just like tropical coconut. In the past, I have also tried their chocolate cupcakes and red velvet brownies, and I have never been disappointed.

I can't have my dessert without also sharing a pot of tea with my mom! Our favorite flavors are carrot cake and vanilla chai, but Letty Mae's offers plenty more options for any type of tea drinker. You get to steep and pour your own tea from the pot at your table, and the experience is complete with the sweetest vintage teacup and saucer.

I just love everything about this restaurant. The building has an upstairs and a downstairs, as well as some outdoor seating, which makes for such a cozy environment. From the mismatched antique china dishes to the silverware being wrapped in vintage hankies, the entire atmosphere is so much fun! Not to mention, the food is always so yummy. Once you visit Letty Mae's for the first time, you'll want to keep coming back!

Check out the Letty Mae's Facebook page for a daily posting of their upcoming menu specials.

A perfect day in my eyes is always spent at these two places I have shared. I love to shop just as much as I love to eat, but I always want both of these activities to be unique and extraordinary. These two hidden gems are far from ordinary, which make them the perfect places to go on an adventure!

I'll be coming back to downtown Morris as a repeated adventurer quite often, but I am also looking forward to more discovering in the coming months.
