My Favorite Winter Gear

January 18, 2019

If you're caught up on this week's Monday Motivator, you read about how I think buying some new winter gear can help the season feel a little less gloomy. Similar to cute workout clothes encouraging you to hit the gym, cute winter clothes can get you excited for the cold!

For today's post, I'm rounding up my favorite winter items I've picked up this season. Some are very affordable and others are investments. If you live in an area where the winter weather is inevitable year after year, sometimes making an investment in your cold-weather gear is a good idea.

I picked these boots up on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods right before winter started because I knew I was in need of a new pair of snow boots. I personally gravitate toward the Sorel brand over Ugg or other brands because I love the quality and they can be a little more affordable. These boots have a cozy fur lining that can be rolled on the top for a shorter appearance. They feel like you're wearing a slipper, except the hard bottom protects from cold weather. I love these so much that I have them in tan and grey. They look SO cute paired with leggings.

I have never been to an Athleta store before, but I attended a networking event back in July sponsored by them and received a voucher toward a purchase in their store. I stopped by one of the stores in Chicago before the holidays and found this shell jacket on clearance. I had been looking for something similar; a quilted jacket that is light enough for those not-so-cold days when you don't exactly need your parka. This jacket is lightweight, yet warm. I love the cut, and the color is more a nude than a grey. It has made a great winter staple so far.

Is there anything better than a good outlet mall find? I spotted the J. Crew classic plaid scarf before the holidays, and I loved it so much that I bought THREE colors. It's truly a game changer; I struggle to make blanket scarves work, but this scarf has the same cutesy plaid appearance of a blanket scarf with LESS material so it can easily wrap around your neck. Not only are they cozy and warm for the outdoors, but they can also be styled with an outfit indoors. Not to mention, they're only $25!

Are you a mitten person or a glove person? I'm personally a mitten person because it feels like a big hug for your hand! These sherpa-lined mittens from Old Navy are perfect for warmth, but also super trendy with the faux-suede look. They come in two hot colors- blush pink and light grey. Whether you have a long walk to work or just need something for your next winter adventure, this pair is a great pick.

As you can probably already tell, I think Old Navy is an awesome destination for cold-weather accessories. Along with their selection of gloves, mittens and scarves, they also have knit beanies to keep your head and ears warm on a frigid day. I love the patterns on this year's beanies; they're really fun, but can be matched with anything! You can wear this one outside, or it would even look really cute indoors with leggings and an oversized sweatshirt. Winter style at its finest!

Everyone knows the best way to deal with winter is to find cute and cozy sweaters that make you feel like a million bucks. It's a NECESSITY! Aerie has some of the chicest sweaters I have ever seen, and they're always running a great sale on top of it. This pointelle sweater has fun little cutouts and details. It's true to size AND comes in three pretty colors. That chunky knit material is perfect as we get deeper into January/February and the weather gets even colder.

Don't think I forgot about your INDOOR winter gear! You HAVE to have a super warm blanket to come home to everyday this time of year. This Project 62 throw from Target is soft and comes in a pretty pink shade you've probably been seeing a lot of lately. Although I don't have this exact blanket, I have a similar pink one from Marshalls that is ultra soft. You can't go wrong with Target's affordable throw blankets that can cozy up any room.

I just got a pair of these slippers for Christmas and they are my FAVVVORITE! They literally feel like little sweaters on your feet. They are made out of a heavy knit material and have grips on the bottom. It's hard to choose just one with so many cute animals- bunnies, unicorns, bears, etc.! They keep my feet nice and warm without making them overheat. I love throwing these on when I get home from work and snuggling up on the couch to watch some Gilmore Girls.

The key to surviving what can feel like a loooong winter is keeping cozy. Buying some new gear can brighten your mood and make the season seem a little less daunting, especially if you hate the cold! I'v been using these pieces A LOT and know they will carry me through many winters to come.

Warm up,
