Motivational Workout Wear

January 24, 2019

The start of a new year usually means new fitness goals for many of us. I'm not sure what it is that makes people hit the gym starting January 1st; maybe it's that clean slate/fresh start mentality. Or maybe it's all those Christmas cookies.

I am NOT a fitness junkie by any stretch. You're lucky if you catch your girl going for a walk or doing some yoga. I start the year with a few goals and eventually fall of the bandwagon because I get too busy, and working out falls to the bottom of my list of priorities. And the gloominess of winter does NOT help keep me motivated. Relatable, right?

If you've been keeping up with me on Instagram these days, you've probably seen that I've been doing the 100 Ab Challenge with Cassey Ho from Blogilates. It's a 30-day challenge with a different ab exercise each day. The challenge is to complete 100 reps of the exercise of the day. What I love is that Cassey has curated a playlist of each exercise on her YouTube channel, so all I have to do is watch the video to learn how to do it. And trust me, I need all the help I can get.

Although I'm a few days behind because I came down with a cold at the beginning of the month, I've been keeping up each day and really love the challenge so far. Similar to yoga, I find it interesting to see how far I can push myself, all while listening to the needs of my body.

I did this challenge as a way to ease myself back into exercising this year. I wanted to get a feel for Blogilates because my plan is to try the beginner monthly workout calendar. So far, I love Cassey's instruction and the videos have been a lifesaver! If you're looking for a fun way to workout at home, I recommend checking Blogilates out!

Now that I've babbled on about how my fitness goals are going, let's talk about how we can all stay motivated to keep at our goals and get those gains. (Isn't that what hip fitness people say?)

My secret: fashion.

No kidding! I firmly believe if you invest in workout wear that you LOVE, you will feel ten times more motivated to keep at it. Maybe it's a new pair of running shoes to get you back on the treadmill or a patterned pair of leggings to bring you to your yoga mat. You know that feeling when you're SO excited to wear a new shirt you just bought? You'll be SO excited to wear your new workout gear that you will actually WANT to exercise!

For today's post, I rounded up some current workout wear that's been catching my eye, and BONUS: it's actually affordable! We all love our Nike and Under Armour, but if you're not looking to splurge just yet because you're still testing the workout waters, these items are for you.

Here are a few of my favorites:

I've had these Adidas sneakers for over a year now and WOW. I bought these at DSW to be my everyday, out and about shoe, so I haven't necessarily used them for working out. But I can say that they are extremely lightweight and comfortable. It honestly feels like I'm not wearing any shoes. Love them.

Old Navy's muscle tanks are simple, affordable AND fun! The light material pairs perfect over a sports bra. They always offer a variety of cute colors and graphics that add some spice to a boring gym routine. I recommend sizing up for that comfortable, loose fit.

Although I don't have these exact New Balance training shoes, I am LOVING the look of them. A while back, Nike created what was called a "studio shoe." They're a stretchy, spandex wrap for your feet with grips on the bottom to prevent slippage. These New Balance's on Amazon are VERY similar. They work great for anyone who does yoga, pilates, barre, etc.

I have this sports bra from JCP and highly recommend it because it can have multiple uses! Not only is it a very trendy piece to wear for your workouts, but it can also be worn underneath a top to add a little extra something to your outfit. It has great coverage for the gym, but can also make a plain tank top look sexy for a night out.

Living in oversized sweatshirts forever- who's with me?! Seriously, I love a big comfy sweatshirt for those workouts when you don't plan to sweat too much and just want to take it easy. This one from JCP is so adorable with "Hustle" written in rose gold across the chest.

I don't own this pair of Old Navy yoga leggings yet, but I DO love their yoga leggings. I especially love this pair because I think the new "cutout" trend in workout leggings is so fun, but I can't wear any of them with designs on my thick thighs. The cutouts at the ankle on these are perfect for my body type.

You can shop these items and TONS of other athletic wear pieces I'm loving below!:

Besides the stores with items I've linked to in this post- including Old Navy, DSW, Amazon, Kohl's, Walmart, JCPenney and Aerie- you can also find trendy and affordable workout wear at Target, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Ross.

Remember: don't let yourself feel guilty for falling behind on a few days. We all need to rest and recharge. But if you keep your motivation level high, there's a great chance you will stick with it!

Work it out,
