Travel style journal: Shipshewana, Ind.

September 8, 2016

I'm back, fashionistas!

I have officially returned home after traveling the world. And by traveling the world, I mean my latest destination that was only two hours from my house. But one can dream, right?

Each year, my mom and I take a mother-daughter trip to Shipshewana, which is a small Amish town located in Indiana. The drive is easy, the shopping is great and the food is AMAZING, so it's the perfect quick getaway for us.

Summer flew by for me, and I was stuck squeezing in my vacations at the last minute. So, without any further delay, here is the second half of my two-part travel style journal. This one is on the shorter side, but is sure to have some looks you'll love.

Day | 1

The first day of our trip, I was in the mood for boho style and went with this casual and comfortable look. We do a lot of shopping and walking throughout the day, so a stylish outfit that is built for comfort is key. I wore this Knox Rose from Target maxi dress with a long crochet vest by Mossimo Supply Co. from Target. I knotted the bottom of the dress to spice it up a bit. I paired the look with strappy brown Target sandals and a beaded fringe necklace (ALSO from Target!). I didn't realize until right now that I was a walking Target model that day...

This look: $23  (All pieces were Goodwill finds, minus the sandals, which were from Target on sale.)

P.S. You can still get most of these items from Target right now, and some are on clearance! I've linked the text to each piece for your own personal shopping.

Later in the day, we always dress up to go out to our favorite restaurant, Blue Gate. I didn't get a snapshot of my outfit, mostly because I was too excited to eat. But I wore this green and blue LOFT dress that I scored at Goodwill for $7 with the tags still attached before I left. I paired it with my Michael Kors black slide sandals, which were a birthday gift that I've featured before.

This look: $7  (Goodwill and TJ Maxx)

But let's not forget what was more important than the dress: My fried chicken dinner.

We took a night swim at the hotel pool later on, and I wore my final suit of the summer, which was my black high-waisted Mossimo bikini bottoms and this Xhilaration palm leaf triangle bikini top.

This look: $22  (Target sales)

Day | 2

This was our final day in Shipshewana before heading back home. Since we would be doing more exploring, I chose to wear this blue and white Xhilaration romper from Target, which I found on clearance for only $7 right before I left town, and I paired it with a Mudd knit vest from Kohls and my strappy Target sandals once again.

We traveled to the nearby town of Middlebury and stopped in a gift shop that had a huge quilt painting outside, which made the perfect photo op!

This look: $19  (Target clearance and Goodwill)

My mom and I even got matching dainty gold bracelets. These are so fun!

After a quick bite at the Rise and Roll bakery, where I had a DELICIOUS ham, swiss and raspberry jam on cinnamon raisin bread sandwich (say WHA?!), it was time to trek back to good ole' Illinois.

*****

I think people truly underestimate the power of a getaway. It's easy to get caught up in the mindset that you have to travel across or out of the country to enjoy yourself. Traveling is important for the soul, but even traveling an hour or two away from time to time can do the trick.

My mom and I take the same trip each year, and every year I get SO excited for it. Being away for a couple of days is the perfect way to de-stress and take a break from your usual routine. And if you're with people you love, you are guaranteed to have a great time.

So my advice to you is: go somewhere new, eat different foods and wear a kick-ass outfit.

Treat yo' self. You won't regret it.

Adios summer,
