For today's post, I will be sharing some of my 4th of July style ideas with you. BUT FIRST, I just completed another beauty product tutorial/review that I just can't wait to share.
The product I chose for this tutorial is John Frieda's Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray. I first heard about this product on Lauren Conrad's blog, where she also created a tutorial video that you can watch here.
I got my hair cut short at the start of summer and immediately regretted it, just like most haircuts. My problem with it truly was figuring out how to style it, but now that I've nailed it down to a science, I actually like it short (for now).
I like my cut when it's straight, but some days I'm looking for something a little different. Beach wavy short hair is really popular this summer. Celebs like Lauren Conrad, Lucy Hale and Ashley Benson can all be seen sporting short cuts with beach waves. It's a really simple look, but still looks polished with any outfit!
Check out my tutorial video below:
I've used this product almost everyday when I don't straighten my hair and I've really loved the results! It gives my natural waves from braiding my hair the perfect tousled finish.
I'm not a big user of hair products besides the usual shampoo and conditioner, with an occasional hairspray because other products either weigh my hair down or make it look greasy. But this product is really just a finishing tool and does not take away from the style, which is why I love it so much. It can also be used for short or long hair, so if your hair is much longer, don't be afraid to try it out!
As I mentioned in the video, I found John Frieda's spray at Target for $8, because Target's Cartwheel app usually has a good coupon for John Frieda products. I decided to try this brand because of what I read on LC's blog, but there are plenty of different sea salt sprays at different prices for you to try. Brands like Suave, Not Your Mother's and and TRESemme all have their own take on sea salt spray for a lower budget at Target too!
My friend Nicole (you can read her blog here) has tried the TRESemme sea salt spray, and has been pretty happy with her results so far too! If you try out or have tried any different types of sea salt spray, leave a comment and let me know what you thought of it so far.
Now that you know of a great summer hairstyle, it's time to talk about great outfits for the 4th of July!
I love the look of denim shorts with a white top and a red necklace. Yes, denim is blue, so it's a perfect material for the holiday! Even a denim shirt dress with some white sandals would be a great look.
Don't be afraid to also play with pieces that have festive prints, like a pair of navy shorts with a white star pattern, or a red and white striped skirt.
Accessories are a simple way to also tie in the holiday theme, especially with the american flag being on trend this summer. American flag scarves are a great add on to make your outfit even more festive.
Here's an outfit I styled for the 4th of July:
Forever 21 lace top, Target Merona grey tank, Old Navy denim shorts, LOFT sandals, Betsey Johnson bag |
Lucky Brand necklace |
The bag is Betsey Johnson, and I found it at a resale store for $25. The rest of my outfit is also made up of good deals! The lace top is Forever 21, and I found it at Goodwill for $3. The grey tank is Merona from Target, and I found it at Goodwill also for $3! The pull on denim shorts (so soft!) are from Old Navy. I got them back on memorial day when Old Navy was having buy one get one free on their shorts, so these bad boys were FREE. My slide sandals are from LOFT, and I got them in store on final sale for $10. And my Lucky Brand mother of pearl necklace I found at the outlet for $10.
There are some really great brands and really great pieces in this look, and I styled it for just about $50! The Betsey Johnson bag alone would cost more than that originally. 4th of July dress for less = check!
Wow, a hairstyle tutorial, lots of red, white and blue outfit ideas AND some outfit inspiration? I'd say my fashionable followers made out pretty well this post!
Whatever your plans are for this 4th of July, I hope you enjoy them, and enjoy them in style!
Let freedom ring!
