How to: Style a romper for the workplace

July 28, 2017

Romper: Tobi | Blazer: LC Lauren Conrad | Necklace: Vintage | Shoes: DSW
Any of my 9 to 5 office life readers get burned out during the summer season with their work wear? I know I do.

Luckily, I work in a business casual environment, so I have slightly more freedom than a business professional workplace. If you work in a more creative atmosphere, I can imagine you have even more freedom with your wardrobe.

I have so many fun summer pieces in my closet that I can't wear to work because they're a bit too casual, including some really fun rompers. The rompers in my wardrobe get saved for some weekend fun, but if you DO work in a creative space, you could totally make a romper work as your office #ootd.

Here are my "how to" tips for styling a romper in the workplace:

1 | GO WITH A SIMPLE, FLATTERING ROMPER

There are so many fun rompers out there in different patterns, colors and shapes. Although I love my floral print romper from Target, the busy pattern makes it too casual for the workplace. A tailored romper in a simple shade like this peach color is the perfect type. This piece is from Tobi and it's their  Streets of London Shift Romper. I love the loose fit and the little pockets in front give it some extra character!

2 | THROW ON THE RIGHT BLAZER

I wouldn't pair just any old blazer with a romper; it has to be one that compliments the look. Instead of a perfectly-tailored classic shape, I chose this LC Lauren Conrad black blazer from Kohl's that is a longer cut with 3/4 scrunched sleeves. It gives the outfit a straight shape that flows together with a modern feel.

3 | STEP INTO CHIC, COMFY HEELS

Wearing a pair of sandals with this look would totally tone down the professional factor, so instead, opt for a pair of unique heels or wedges. These are Walking Cradles black suede peep toe mules from DSW. They really pop with the black blazer and keep the outfit on a professional level. This particular brand is also built for comfort, which you need for a long day at work! Don't settle on heels that are really cute, but kill your feet in the end.

4 | ADD ON A LENGTHY NECKLACE

To accessorize,  a long necklace pairs perfectly with this look to break up the solid romper/blazer combo. Since the blazer is a longer cut, a lengthy necklace compliments it. I found this mixed metal bar necklace at a thrift store, but any simple necklace like this will add some serious accessory power.

5 | DON'T FORGET YOUR #GIRLBOSS ATTITUDE

Wait, I didn't mention? You also have to OWN THIS LOOK, GIRL! I love how this outfit is powerful AND chic AF. If you have the creative freedom to wear an outfit like this to your job, WEAR IT and WORK IT. A #girlboss attitude starts with ambition and a KILLER outfit!

If you can't wear rompers to work, this outfit can also be worn with a shift dress instead! But if your employee handbook allows, go for it! The time to be bold is now.

She means business,
