Closet to Costume | Fortune Teller

October 25, 2018

Halloween is just around the corner, and if you're planning to go out this weekend but don't have a costume plan, I put together an easy one that may not even require you to leave your closet.

This year I'm dressing up as a fortune teller, and although I did purchase a few pieces, I had most of my costume already available in my wardrobe. If you love boho style like I do, this will probably be super easy to put together using your own closet.

Here's what you'll need:

* PEASANT-STYLE CROP TOP
* PATTERNED MAXI SKIRT
* SUEDE VEST (OPTIONAL)
* BOHO BANDEAU OR HEADSCARF
* THIN BELT
* BOHO JEWELRY- GOLD STATEMENT EARRINGS, WRAP BRACELET, CHOKER AND/OR PENDANT NECKLACE
* NETTED BAG (OPTIONAL)
* MAGIC 8 BALL OR TAROT CARDS

The only pieces for this costume that I had to purchase were the crop top, which was a $3 find from Forever 21, and the Boho Bandeau, which you can find a large selection of at Francesca's. I note that the suede vest is optional because I don't think the costume necessarily needs it, but I had it in my closet already and liked the way it looked! If you don't have a patterned maxi skirt, chances are you can hunt one down at your local thrift store.

If you don't have a thin belt, you can always tie a scarf around your waist instead. A scarf could also work for your head instead of a Boho Bandeau. I already had TONS of boho pieces in my jewelry box, but if you need something to complement your costume, stores like H&M and Forever 21 have unique pieces that are affordable, like big gold hoop earrings or bangle bracelets.

The netted bag is another optional item, but I had it on hand and also liked how it paired with the costume. I BET you can find a Magic 8 Ball in your basement somewhere, but if not, they are under $10 at Target, or just print off some pretend Tarot cards as a fun prop. For shoes, I'm thinking Birkenstock sandals, but only if the weather allows for it!

So, are you feeling inspired to raid your closet for this year's costume?  It's the best way to stay budget-friendly for Halloween!
