Universal Thread Try-On

February 20, 2018

Don't ya just love that "Christmas morning" feeling when a new line is released at Target? I DO! I DO!

Their latest women's line, Universal Thread, was released Feb. 4. The new items include shoes, handbags, jewelry, blouses, jackets, sweaters and LOTS of denim. Plus it comes in all sizes.

In my usual fashion, I headed to Target on the big day to browse the racks and give the new items a try. I picked up a few different things I'm loving, so today on the blog, I'm doing a try-on to show off the pieces and let you know exactly what I think about the new line. Let's get started!

HIGH-RISE SKINNY JEAN
Originally I was SUPER excited to try on UT's high-rise straight jean. But to my surprise, the straight style didn't fit me right at all. The material had no stretch and it was way too tight. I saw them online so I was pretty bummed when they didn't fit, but just for the heck of it, I tried on the high-rise SKINNY because why not. A skinny cut is not usually a style that fits me, but these have great stretch without too much uncomfortable hugging. I picked these up in both a dark and light wash because I can see myself wearing them a lot. I do recommend sizing up in these though- I'm typically an 8 in jeans but had to get these in a 12.

RAILROAD JACKET
This was the first Universal Thread piece I laid eyes on, thanks to the Target Does It Again Instagram page. First off, I LOVE a jacket with pockets and this one has not one, not two, but FOUR of em'. I also love the overall cut of this piece. It's a loose fit with a great shape from the drawstring waist and rounded hem in the back. It is definitely more on the casual, grunge-style side, but the thin stripe design is playful. This will be a spring go-to for me!

OPEN LAYERING CARDIGAN
I've been searching for the perfect black layering cardigan to go with anything and everything and THIS. IS. IT. Although I needed black, it comes in three additional pretty colors. It's a simple, comfortable fit and makes the perfect layering piece for all types of outfits. This is a basic item your closet NEEDS; you can never go wrong with something so simple.

MID-RISE EMBROIDERED SKINNY JEAN
Like a lot of fellow fashionistas these days, I'm embroidery OBSESSED. Give me embroidery on ALL THE CLOTHES! In all seriousness, my mouth dropped when I saw this pair of cuties, but I was 99 percent sure they weren't going to fit. But I brought them to the fitting room anyway. Once again, I was surprised because they actually did fit! These jeans also have great stretch and comfortability. I would also recommend sizing up to get the right fit. The colors of the flowers are basic enough to pair with different things; I love how these look with the railroad jacket!

WENDA CUT OUT BOOTIES
I had been searching ALL OVER for a pair of shoes this style that were more affordable and again, Target CAME THOUGH. I was lucky enough to snag these booties two weeks prior to the launch of Universal Thread and they were a lot of the reason why I wanted to check out the rest of the brand. Although they may not look it, these shoes are very comfy; I could wear them all day! They pair perfect with my favorite denim.

*****

What's even more awesome about the Universal Thread line is that I didn't pay more than $30 for any of these pieces! Target really did it again.

I love this line because it highlights denim but also features a variety of casual, comfortable pieces that can be worn many different ways. A lot of people are calling it a more affordable version of Madewell, and I really have to agree with that!
