Spring Stylebook | Layering

April 26, 2019

I am not trying to jinx it, but I think it is safe to say that spring has officially arrived!

The last snow we had in Illinois was (thankfully)  while I was out of town, and the weather has been in the 60s-80s ever since. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Warm weather means I can finally start putting together some spring outfits. Sandals and short sleeves- hallelujah!

Keep in mind that for spring, temperatures vary throughout the day. Even though the high is supposed to be 70 degrees, the morning could be in the 50s and chillier. That's why I play around with layering.

Layering sounds like something you would only do in the winter, but there are so many benefits to mastering layering in the spring as well. As I mentioned, the weather can be a little all over the place in the springtime, so having the option to add/remove pieces is a necessity!

Here's my current favorite spring outfit that incorporates layering:

I centered the look around one main piece- this sleeveless black jumpsuit. It's the brand Time and Tru from Walmart and I found it last year. The cotton material makes it so incredibly comfy, and the elastic tie waist gives it great shape. It's one of those rare cases where a jumpsuit actually looks good on my body type.

To begin the layering process, I started underneath the jumpsuit with a vintage Ann Taylor striped crop top. I found this tee at Goodwill and it's a stretchy, knit material that is very similar to a thermal. This short sleeved style pairs perfect under jumpsuits and jumper-like dresses. A top like this is a layering staple, especially for the spring!

Next, I added on a distressed denim boyfriend jacket from Old Navy. A comfortable jean jacket is a layering must-have. It needs to have great stretch and a hem that hits at a flattering length. Denim jackets can easily be taken on and off depending on the temperature. I love this specific one from ON because it truly complements any piece- from jumpsuits to dresses!

I can't help but wear my sandals ASAP- they're my favorite style shoe! I spotted these Eurosoft criss cross sandals during a recent visit to DSW and thought they were so fun. The zipper detail is unique for a sandal, and I LOVE the taupe color. This style looked perfect paired with my jumpsuit.

Finally, to accessorize, I added on my ban.do Sidekick bag in a bright red shade. This crossbody is definitely the pop of color my outfit needed. The pom poms add a little playfulness to complete the look. It makes a statement and screams, "I'm spring-ready!"

Layering is not just for a snowy day, it's for your average spring day, too! Put together an outfit with enough pieces that will get you through the unexpected highs and lows.
