Breezy spring florals: Groundbreaking

April 21, 2017

"Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking."

I can't help but giggle every time I'm watching "The Devil Wears Prada" and Meryl Streep delivers this perfectly sarcastic line. But in all seriousness- florals for spring? DUH! They're obvious, but they're a must-have.

I'm a flower-aholic and just can't get enough. Through clothing, accessories or decor, I'm always trying to brighten things up with flowers, which is even more of a reason why I love SPRING!

Although florals come back each year, the trends evolve from season to season. I remember when tiny flower prints were huge on skirts and dresses. In recent years, we've seen more bright florals against dark backgrounds. As I've been hunting the racks this year, I am seeing prints with large flowers and simple colors, which reminds me of a cross between girly and boho styles. (My personal favs!)

For today's post, I built a look around my favorite recent find- this Bobeau floral skirt from T.J. Maxx. This outfit incorporates the floral trend with many other fun spring elements you'll want in your wardrobe.

Skirt: Bobeau from T.J. Maxx | Tee: Old Navy | Jacket: LOFT | Shoes: Merona from Target | Watch: Kate Spade
First, let's talk about why this is the best skirt EVER! The print immediately caught my attention because I love the large flowers against the soft blue background. The light pinks, reds and greens in the flowers make them look more realistic than animated. Moving past the print, you have a comfy elastic waist, a side bow detail and the unique high-low/wrap cut of the skirt. It's the three F's- flowy, flouncy and fun- which is everything you could ask for in a skirt, really.

I wanted the skirt to be the star of the show, so I used basic pieces for the rest of the outfit. I tucked in a light pink Old Navy boyfriend tee and slipped into my LOFT denim jacket. The color of the tee matches pinks in the skirt, making the perfect pair. The light wash of my jacket also tops off the outfit with more spring shades.

(HINT: If you're feeling tired of denim from the winter, you can still rock the material with a lighter wash that is more spring appropriate, and is typically softer and more lightweight!)

The shoes I chose for this outfit are new this season and I couldn't wait to bust them out of their box. The Merona Harriet Lace Up sandals from Target come in black and taupe, which is what I'm wearing here. I'm all about block heels in the summer because of the comfort, and the laces make slipping these sandals on so EASY!

Finally, I added my new Kate Spade watch from T.J. Maxx to accessorize the look. A nice timepiece really has the power to pull an outfit together.

Trust me when I tell you florals are EVERYWHERE in my wardrobe. Blouses, dresses and so on...there's just so many ways to wear the unique prints! But this specific skirt really makes me feel like I'm putting my best foot forward into spring.

How will you be wearing florals this season?

Brighten up,
